Senior In House Tax Lawyer - Middle East
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Tax Lawyer to join the legal team of a major energy company based in the Middle East. This is an exciting opportunity for a tax counsel to work on large-scale projects within large and high-performance organisation that plays a key role in the global energy sector.
Position Overview:
As the Senior Tax Counsel you will be a key advisor to the company's business units, subsidiaries, and joint ventures. You will be responsible for providing expert legal advice on tax planning, compliance, and strategy. Your role will involve analysing legal frameworks, advising on tax-efficient structures for major projects, reviewing relevant legislation, and managing the legal aspects of tax-related matters. Additionally, you will assist senior management in making informed decisions regarding tax and legal issues, ensuring that the company remains compliant while maximising opportunities.
Key Responsibilities:
* Provide legal counsel on tax-efficient structuring for complex and high-profile energy projects and investments.
* Advise senior management and business units on local, regional, and international tax laws, treaties, and regulations impacting the company's operations in the Middle East.
* Conduct in-depth legal research to ensure that the company remains compliant with the latest tax regulations.
* Develop tax strategies to minimise liabilities while maximising business objectives.
* Coordinate with external legal counsel and tax advisors to ensure comprehensive legal support for ongoing transactions and tax-related inquiries.
* Lead responses to tax audits and regulatory inquiries related to the company's tax position.
* Review and analyse changes in legislation and offer recommendations on the strategic implications for the company.
* Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including finance and compliance departments, to ensure alignment between legal and business goals.
Qualifications and Requirements:
* Juris Doctor (JD) or equivalent law degree from a recognised institution.
* Admission to practice before the highest court of the state or country of citizenship.
* An LL.M. in Taxation or related specialisation will be of particular interest.
* A minimum of six years of experience in tax law, gained from a top-tier law firm, Big 4 accounting firm, or in-house legal department of a multinational company.
* Strong understanding of international tax regulations, corporate structures, and cross-border tax issues.
* Experience with tax-efficient structuring for energy, infrastructure, or large-scale industrial projects is highly desirable.
* Excellent analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills.
* Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative environment and handle multiple high-priority tasks.
