VAT and Customs Accountant - Leeds

We're working with a well-established business looking to appoint a Customs & VAT specialist to join their in-house tax function. This is a varied and commercially focused role, supporting both operational and strategic matters across customs and indirect tax.

Key Responsibilities:

* Provide internal advice on customs and VAT matters, particularly around cross-border transactions, imports, and exports.
* Support the development and implementation of internal procedures to ensure ongoing compliance.
* Assist with VAT returns, customs declarations, and related reporting requirements.
* Monitor legislative changes and assess business impact.
* Collaborate with teams across finance, supply chain, legal, and operations.
* Engage with external authorities and stakeholders where required.
* Deliver training and raise awareness internally on customs and VAT compliance.

Ideal Profile:

* Solid understanding of UK VAT and customs regulations, with at least 3 years of relevant experience.
* Confident preparing VAT returns and customs declarations.
* Comfortable advising on international trade compliance and cross-border activity.
* Excellent communication skills, able to work cross-functionally and explain technical matters clearly.
* Familiarity with ERP systems (e.g. SAP or Oracle) is a plus.
* Professional qualifications (ACCA, CTA, etc.) are advantageous but not essential.

Additional Information:

This role requires regular presence in the Leeds office (3-4 days/week) with occasional travel. The team offers a collaborative, fast-paced environment and exposure to a broad range of tax matters.
